Overview

WxTools (Weather Data Tool Suite) is a collection of software for collecting and displaying weather data collected from Oregon Scientific weather stations (though the code could be generalised for other weather data sources). The software works with the Oregon Scientific WMR180 weather station (and probably also similar models such as the WMR88 and WMR100) as well as the older WMR928. Sample weather data is provided.

The tools were mostly developed by Ken Turner of Computing Science and Mathematics at the University of Stirling. Significant contributions were also made by Dauren Sakenov and Anthony S. Wilson at the University of Stirling.

As an example of the weather data that is collected, the following shows what can be selected online by WxChart:

Weather Parameters

This produces weather charts such as the following:

Alternatively, WxList produces 24-hour weather summaries and graphs such as the following:

Main Tools

Most of the tools are written Java. Some tools (WxChart and WxList) require a servlet container such as Jetty or Tomcat. One tool (the older WxLog) requires Quick Basic.

WxTools provides the following main tools, each with its own documentation and software:

The following additional information is provided, each with its own documentation:

Finally, some Unix-like utilities are provided in the bin directory (usable on Microsoft Windows with Cygwin). These small tools are for controlling the update, vetting and viewing weather data; they are likely to need customisation for local needs.
